Diego Simeone is putting his side through their paces in a traditional two-week training camp ahead of the new LaLiga season.

Los Rojiblancos are regular visitors to the Sierra de Guadarrama, which is a national park close to the Spanish capital.

Griezmann and his teammates were exhausted after the regular drills were put in place by Atleti’s performance coach, Oscar Ortega, nicknamed ‘El Profe’.

The 64-year-old fitness guru had a special ramp area built behind the training pitch for the squad to be challenged.

Simeone’s stars are expected to sprint up the 50 meters, 30% slope while the scorching sun beams down on them.

Antonio Conte has also been putting his Spurs players through grueling drills before the Premier League starts next month, but Ortega is certainly taking it to another level.

It is not the first time Ortega has had the Atleti players on their knees.

The Uruguayan had the stars doing laps around the San Siro, ahead of the Champions League final against Real Madrid in 2016.

Atletico’s all-time top scorer, Griezmann, was struggling and his facial expressions clearly showed it. Footage shows the France international shattered and breathing heavily.

Former midfielder Darren Ambrose, who played for Neil Warnock at Crystal Palace, understands what it’s like to train under a task master.

Ambrose recalled the time Warnock's pre-season drills were grueling

Ambrose recalled the time Warnock’s pre-season drills were grueling

“Neil Warnock, he was the old school manager,” he told talkSPORT.

“We had fitness coaches, but he would take a lot of the sessions, he would have this session where it was a 440m track, and he set up hurdles have way around.

“The worst word you could hear at the time from him was ‘get on the line’, no matter if it was a running or weight session, as soon as you heard those words you would have to stop and get on the line.

“You would have your groups already set up, and no matter how he was feeling, you could 50, 25, 20 in a day, or even one – depends how he is feeling on the day.

“Brilliant manager, and a lot of his teams were really fit, and that is the reason.”
