Erling Haaland experiencing ‘massive learning curve’, says ex-Man City star, who explains why striker will score more away goals this season

Erling Haaland has made a ‘fantastic’ start to life at Manchester City, however, he may not fire on all cylinders in home matches this season.

This is the view of former Man City star Shaun Wright-Phillips, who believes the Norwegian hotshot will be more of a goal threat away from the Etihad Stadium this season.

Haaland opened his City goal account with both of their goals in their 2-0 win at West Ham on the opening weekend.

But he drew a blank in their 4-0 win at home to Bournemouth, which to many would seem a much easier match for Pep Guardiola’s men.

And Wright-Phillips believes Haaland will score fewer goals at home due to the way opponents tend to set up when playing City away.

However, learning this new way to play will only make Haaland a better all-round footballer, insists the former City winger.

“It’s been a fantastic start for him,” Wright-Phillips told talkSPORT.com with Bet365.

“At the start of the Premier League he managed to get two goals and one assist in two games. I think he’s been fantastic.

“He’s learning how to play a different way of football to what he’s used to. He has to be a lot more patient and wait for the right option.

“I think he’s more likely to score more goals away from home because of the way teams play when they come to the Etihad.

“It’s going to be an interesting journey and a massive learning curve and if he gets it right he’s only going to improve and make his all round game better because he can play in all situations.

“But I think he’s been very good since he started.”

Newcastle beware! Man City and Haaland’s next match is at St James’ Park.
