Premier League side Liverpool FC are celebrating their European successes with their third kit for 2022-23.
The kit, made by Nike, was officially unveiled on Monday. The club calls it “a celebration of the famous flags and banners that have traveled with fans across Europe for decades.”
The kit is mainly dark teal with a swirling tonal pattern all over. Red trim appears on the sleeve cuffs. The club crest, Nike logo and sponsor logos are all red as well.
Liverpool has several European club trophies in its case, including six UEFA Champions League/European Cup titles, three UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup titles, and four UEFA Super Cup/European Super Cup titles.
“The club’s change kits have long been linked to European competitions and with the Champions League group stage set to begin this week, LFC has taken the opportunity to salute the supporter tradition that’s a huge part of its rich European history and success,” the club’s website reads.
When worn in European competition this season, the jersey will feature a “Side by Side” logo on the back, under the player numbers. Side by Side is an initiative between the LFC Foundation and Right to Play. “Working ‘Side by Side’ they use the power of sport and play to help vulnerable children in Bangkok and Senegal, so they can learn, lead and succeed,” the club says.
JUVENTUS FC – Third
Italian Serie A giants Juventus unveiled their third kit for 2022-23 on Monday, and will wear it for the first time against US Salernitana 1919 on Sunday, Sept. 11. It is predominantly a light shade of red (“acid red,” as Adidas calls it) with a kaleidoscopic pattern all over. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are royal blue. The Adidas shoulder stripes are white, as are the Adidas logo and club crest on the chest. The Jeep logo on the chest is blue with lightning bolts through it.
ATLÉTICO DE MADRID – Third
Spanish La Liga powerhouses Atlético de Madrid turned to nature for the inspiration for their third kit for 2022-23, made by Nike. The light orange color is taken from the fruit of the strawberry tree, “an iconic tree present in our badge and that of the city of Madrid,” the club says. The collar inserts on the Nike Vaporknit template and the sleeve cuffs are darker shades of orange, while the sponsor logos and club crest appear in monochromatic black.
FULHAM FC – Third
Premier League side Fulham FC broke out a new third kit for their trip across London to face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Neither the club’s white home kit nor its mint green away kit was deemed distinct enough from Spurs’ white home kit to be worn. The kits were solid black, with white Adidas shoulder stripes and white sponsor logos. Fulham wore the black shorts that normally go with their home kits, with a red wave pattern woven into the trim at the hems. The kit is not yet for sale on Fulham’s web store.
LEICESTER CITY – Away
Meanwhile, fellow Premier League side Leicester City have also gone with black for their 2022-23 away kit. The black kit features mint green accents, including Adidas shoulder stripes and a checkerboard pattern woven into the crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs. The club crest also appears in monochromatic mint green.
WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS – Third
Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers have gone with gray for their 2022-23 third kit, made by Castore. The shirt features a light gray base, with a pattern of overlapping tonal parallelograms on the front. Dark gray piping running from the collar to the shoulder cuts the pattern off. The back and sleeve are solid light gray. Dark gray accents appear on the back half of the crew neck collar, on the sides near the hem, and on the sleeve cuffs under the arms. The club crest appears in full color on the left chest.
ACF FIORENTINA – Third
Italian Serie A side ACF Fiorentina unveiled its new third kit for 2022-23, made by Kappa, on Thursday, Aug. 29 — the club’s 96th birthday. The shirt is mainly blue, with a tonal pattern across the front of the club crest in various sizes. Gold trim appears on the sleeve cuffs and hem, and the sponsor logos and club crest are also gold. The club says the color scheme is “a nod to the Hall of the Liliesone of Florence’s most iconic locations.”
AC SPEZIA – Third
After unveiling rather plain black-and-white home and away kits for 2022-23, Italian Serie A side AC Spezia has gone full technicolor for its third kit, made by Acerbis. The base of the shirt is yellow, with green, red, pink and purple brush strokes all over the front and back, inspired by Cinque Terre, a collection of five fishing villages in Italy that has been declared a national park. The raglan sleeves are solid yellow. Both the collar and sleeve cuffs have yellow fabric overlapping black fabric.
AC MONZA – Third
After unveiling red home kits and white away kits, Serie A newcomers AC Monza unveiled a powder blue third kit and wore it Monday against Atalanta. While the home and away kits have just one vertical stripe running underneath the crest, the third kit has two: one red and one white. On either side of the stripe, near the bottom of the crest, are the years 1912 and 2022, marking the club’s 110th anniversary.
OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS – Third
French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais’s 2022-23 third kit, made by Adidas, is a tribute to Sonorous Nights, an electronic and independent music festival held in Lyon each May. It features a black base with a tonal pattern of parallelograms and chevrons all over the front and sleeves. Solid black blocks on the shoulders house gray Adidas shoulder stripes. The V-neck collar is solid black. The club crest is monochromatic black.
FC NANTES – Third
Fellow Ligue 1 side FC Nantes have also gone with black for their third kit for 2022-23, made by Macron. Nantes will mainly wear the kit in this season’s UEFA Europa League, which they earned their way into by winning the Coupe de France in 2021-22. This will be their first foray into European competition since 2001-02. The kit is black, with embossed diagonal lines forming vertical stripes down the front. The V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs feature yellow trim. The sponsor logos and club crest also appear in yellow. Eight yellow stars are embroidered into the back collar, just above a yellow triangular insert, denoting Nantes’ eight Ligue 1 titles.
ANGERS SCO – Third
Meanwhile in Ligue 1, Angers SCO has gone with a red and gold color scheme for their 2022-23 third kit, made by Kappa. The front of the shirt has a red base, with a pattern of darker red fleurs-de-lis from the club crest. The raglan sleeves are the darker shade of red, while the sleeve cuffs and hem are gold. The club crest appears in monochromatic gold on the left chest.
EINTRACHT FRANKFURT – Fourth
After winning last season’s UEFA Europa League title, German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt find themselves in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, and they are marking the occasion with a special kit made by Nike. The kit is mainly black, with a subtle pattern of diamonds. “The ribbed pattern is a symbol of Frankfurt’s apple cider culture and the values associated with it, such as friendliness and tradition,” the club’s website reads. “By incorporating the pattern into the shirt, a piece of Frankfurt’s culture and ties to the local roots are introduced onto the European football stage.”
AFC AJAX – Third
Dutch Eredivisie powerhouse AFC Ajax has teamed up with Amsterdam-based fashion design house Daily Paper for their 2022-23 third kit, made by Adidas. The kit is mainly gold, with a black stripe bordered in red running vertically down the center of the shirt, an homage to Amsterdam’s city flag. The front of the shirt also features “smoky black watermarks of nine of Amsterdam’s most prominent street football courts.” The crew neck collar and adidas shoulder stripes are white, as are the sponsor logos, including the Daily Paper wordmark underneath the Ajax crest on the retail version.
On the back collar, there is a “playful interpretation of Amsterdam’s coat of arms” that also includes the year the city was founded (1275), two of the city’s nicknames (“Mokum” and “Damsko”) and “Pan-African colors, reflecting the African heritage of Daily Paper.”
The partnership with Daily Paper also extends to a line of pre-match wear.
