Man Utd dressing room reaction to Casemiro transfer explained as Chelsea set Pulisic terms | Soccer | SPORTS

Manchester United players have reacted positively to the news of Casemiro’s imminent transfer to Old Trafford, according to reports. The Brazil international is poised to follow Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen in moving to the club. And he could be joined by Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic, with Erik ten Hag keen on the USA international as he looks to mastermind a swift improvement following a nightmare start to the season so far.

Manchester United confirmed they’d agreed a deal for Casemiro on Friday.

And the Daily Mail say the Red Devils squad are delighted at the imminent arrival of the Brazil international, who has won five Champions League crowns and made over 300 appearances during his glittering spell at Real Madrid.

It’s claimed a design room insider has told the publication that Casemiro’s arrival is viewed as a ‘blessing’.

And members of the squad are said to have remarked that a ‘bulldog like him was needed for some time’.

United have been crying out for a defensive-midfielder for a few years, now, ever since moving for Fred back in the summer transfer window of 2018 when Jose Mourinho ruled the roost.

With Casemiro now on board, it seems like the Red Devils have signed one of the best in the business.

Man Utd takeover: The Glazers have five reasons to sell Man Utd

United had previously been eyeing Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona but, with the 25-year-old reluctant to leave the Nou Camp, have now ended their pursuit of the Netherlands international.

They also entered talks with Juventus for Adrien Rabiot, yet ended up pulling out of a potential deal due to the 27-year-old’s huge wage demands.

Casemiro is set to add grit and steel to a United midfield that has often paled in comparisons to the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal.

And the Red Devils are hopeful that he can help them climb up the Premier League table, having lost their first two games against Brentford and Brighton.

Regarding Pulisic, it’s said United have been trying to sign the USA international on loan.

But Chelsea have made it clear they’d prefer to offload the former Borussia Dortmund star permanently instead, having seen him struggle for consistency during his spell at Stamford Bridge.

United also want to land Antony, who previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax.

They have reportedly left an offer worth £67m on the table for Ajax to accept, but the Eredivisie giants appear to want more in order to part ways with their prized asset.

United are said to have Cody Gakpo as an alternative option, with the PSV Eindhoven star shining with 12 goals and 12 assists in the Eredivisie last term.

And who they end up with remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, regarding Casemiro, Liverpool hero Didi Hamann has insisted the Real Madrid star is ‘not the answer’ to United’s midfield woes.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: “Casemiro is a great player – you only have to look at what he has won at Madrid.

“But he isn’t going to United to win the league, is he? We’re only two games into the season and it’s already obvious that United aren’t going to be anywhere near the title race.

“They are years behind Liverpool and Manchester City – and they are losing ground on Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal as well.

“Signing Casemiro is a small step forward – but he’s not the answer.

“It is going to take years and years of backing Erik ten Hag in the transfer market before United are challenging for the big trophies again.

“But that’s been obvious since [Sir Alex] Ferguson retired – and look at how many managers they have sacked in the process.”

And he also said United should keep hold of Cristiano Ronaldo, who wants to leave for a team that can offer him Champions League football.

“I know the focus has been on (Cristiano) Ronaldo because he’s made it clear that he wants to leave the club, but where would United have been without his goals last season?” he said.

“”Ronaldo is a big-game player, someone who can make a difference.

“For me, the biggest problem for Ten Hag is Bruno Fernandes. I can’t remember the last time I saw him do something other than wave his hands around in frustration.

“You can’t have players doing that in games against Liverpool. Everyone has to put a full shift in.”
