Manchester United and Chelsea Lead £500 Million Transfer Binge

Manchester United and Chelsea are expecting to be a significant part of a £500 million transfer binge as Premier League clubs look to bring the window to an exciting close. According to a report by Matt Law, a number of clubs are looking to spend big in the final weeks of the summer window.

Premier League Clubs Looking to Spend £500 Million Within the Fortnight

Which Clubs Plan on Spending Part of the £500 Million?

The most visible clubs that are desperate to spend some of their transfer budgets are Chelsea and Manchester United. Both sides are heavily linked with players including Casemiro and Wesley Fofana, with the two clubs fighting over Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong. Both the Blues and the Red Devils could find themselves spending comfortably in excess of £100 million.

There are several other clubs scattered throughout the division looking to finish their business. Wolverhampton Wanderers recently welcomed Matheus Nunes to the club, Nottingham Forest are ever-present spenders in this window and, according to Matt Law, Everton are desperately hunting for a striker to add depth. Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa could all also make moves, with Leicester City the only side not to make a single purchase this window.

Manchester United’s Remaining Business

The Old Trafford hierarchy has several plans in action. Casemiro is one of the players of interest, with the Real Madrid midfielder seen as a potential solution to Erik ten Hag’s worries in the center of the pitch.

Manchester United could also make a signing for a new right-back such as Thomas Meunier, with another centre-forward a final potential area for investment in the event that Cristiano Ronaldo leaves. The Red Devils are also considering another goalkeeper, with Leeds United’s Illan Meslier firmly off-limits.

Chelsea’s Remaining Business

There is a lot of work left to do when it comes to getting players to Cobham. Wesley Fofana is Thomas Tuchel’s current centre-back target, with moves for Anthony Gordon and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang designed to bring more of an attacking edge to Chelsea’s front line.

Meanwhile, progress on Frenkie de Jong is slow. The player wants to stay at Barcelona. In spite of this, the Nou Camp hierarchy are considering his exit as a means of registering Jules Kounde.

Other Deals to Look For

Plenty of other clubs are looking for players. Houssem Aouar’s agreement with Nottingham Forest is a major move. While there are personal terms in place, Crystal Palace also have an interest in the player.

Everton, Leeds and Crystal Palace all have links with attacking players. Ismalia Sarr is one of the most prominent links to each club, as the Toffees and Jesse Marsch’s Elland Road outfit are both considering more depth at the top of the pitch. However, Phil Hay has stated that the majority of Leeds links are inaccurate, with the club potentially considering its business done.

Frank Lampard’s potential loss of youngster Anthony Gordon is a huge cause for concern, driving the Goodison Park hierarchy to look for forwards.

In any case, it’s easy to see where £500 million of spending can come from. Several teams are considering a lot more spending before the window slams shut. Keep an eye on all of these teams and more, as there’s a lot of business yet to come.
