Roy Keane gives Premier League title prediction and verdict on Manchester United’s chances of rivaling Man City and Liverpool

Roy Keane has delivered his verdict on who he thinks will be Premier League champions this season.

The Manchester United legend now works as a television pundit and his opinions are respected in the game.

His assessments, usually damning about his old club, are often box office viewing.

Now the 50-year-old has assessed who he thinks will be challenging for the Premier League title.

Man City are the reigning champions after a dramatic final day in the 2021/22 campaign.

City needed to have it all in their hands on the final day knowing that a win, or equaling Liverpool’s result, would see them claim the trophy.

A topsy-turvy afternoon saw Pep Guardiola’s side come from behind to beat Aston Villa.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, along with Keane’s old club Man United, will be hoping to close the gap on the two dominant teams but the Irishman doesn’t believe they should get their hopes up.

“I don’t think they will close the gap,” Keane told Sky Bet.

“I think they will be a bit better. They have quality and the recruitment, but you can’t look beyond Liverpool and Man City.”

Keane also elaborated more on Manchester United’s chances this season.

The Red Devils have a new manager in Erik ten Hag and there will be plenty of new faces by the time the 2022/23 campaign gets underway.

Tyrell Malacia has signed from Feyenoord, while Lisandro Martinez and Frenkie de Jong look likely to arrive.

Keane added: “The manager no doubt will be given money to spend, how he recruits, four or five experienced players have left the club, which I think is a good thing.

“But I still don’t see United competing with Liverpool and Manchester City, not just yet.”

City have strengthened this summer by bringing in Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips and, despite the departures of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, Keane still backs them for the title.

On City, Keane added: “Brilliant players, they’ve obviously improved with an unbelievable striker [Haaland] and they’ve got one of the greatest managers ever in Pep [Guardiola].”
