Transfer news LIVE: Man United battle Chelsea for Frenkie de Jong and Blues in for Man City target Marc Cucurella

Man United: Donny van de Beek praises Harry Maguire’s ‘big personality’ to shake off boos

Manchester United are fighting Chelsea for Frenkie de Jong’s signature, according to reports on Monday, as both clubs look to pick the Dutch midfielder from Barcelona. United are ready to offer De Jong an enormous £450,000 per week salary and pay off the £17m he is owed by Barcelona in deferred wages during the pandemic, according to Sport in Spain. However, Chelsea are also now in the running and are ready to make an offer if De Jong decides to leave the Nou Camp, Sport writes, with Barca then ready to buy Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva as a replacement.

The Blues suffered a blow as Barcelona confirmed they had agreed a deal to sign a major target for Thomas Tuchel’s side, Jules Kounde, with latest rumors suggesting they will look to land either Josko Gvardiol, Presnel Kimpembe or Wesley Fofana. Arsenal, meanwhile, are trying to both offload players and potentially bring in a midfield addition, with Youri Tielemans reportedly the subject of their attention. Nuno Tavares and William Saliba are both wanted by Marseille, while the futures of Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Hector Bellerin are yet to be clarified, too.

And Lionel Messi is ready to make a sensational return to Barcelona, according to Catalunya Radio, which reports he is keen to leave Paris Saint-Germain after an underwhelming first season in the French capital.

Chelsea enter the race for Brighton wing-back Marc Cucurella

Chelsea are pushing hard towards a deal for £50million-rated Brighton wing-back Marc Cucurella.

The Blues have long since been tracking Cucurella, who came through the Barcelona academy and impressed at Getafe before joining Brighton in 2021.

Brighton are understood to be holding firm on a £50m valuation for Cucurella, which is thought to have stalled a possible move to Manchester City.

Chelsea are continuing to reshape the squad under new owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, with manager Thomas Tuchel understood to remain keen on two further defensive recruits.

Real Madrid want a striker but ‘not in a hurry’ to decide who

Real Madrid are playing the transfer window at their own pace, unhurried by Barcelona’s spending or the rest of Europe’s games of brinkmanship. And why not? They were league and Champions League double winners after all last year.

However, they will want to add a centre-forward before the window closes, reports Marca, to act as backup to Karim Benzema.

But they are “not in a hurry” and it’s not an “urgent” matter, either to decide between the options or get the deal done.

More important has been to offload Borja Mayoral, Luka Jovic and Mariano, the latter of which has yet to depart.

Andrea Belotti set to sign for Roma on free transfer

Former Torino front man Andrea Belotti is on his way to Jose Mourinho’s team after agreeing a three-year contract with AS Roma.

The Italy national team striker will sign on a free transfer and is set to complete the move as soon as current Roma striker Eldor Shumorodov seals his own switch to Bologna.

Belotti will then compete for a place in the team with Tammy Abraham, Roma’s regular starter up front last season as they won the Europa Conference League.

Newcastle make increased £50m bid for James Maddison

Newcastle making their move – will it be enough?

The new offer is £50m for James Maddison! Sky Sports say the Magpies are “awaiting a response” after having a £40m bid turned down across the weekend.

Leicester are still yet to sign anyone themselves this summer and they seem to need to sell to raise funds to do so.

Barcelona to consider ex-Man City man if Marcos Alonso deal drags on

Chelsea could still have more summer business to do which heavily involves Barcelona, after losing out to them with Raphinha and Kounde.

This time it’s a more direct potential deal though as the Catalan side still chase Marcos Alonso – but they’re not willing to hang around if the price isn’t right, say Sport.

Instead, they’ve lined up RB Leipzig wing-back and former Man City man Angelino as their alternative, to give Jordi Alba more competition on that side of defense.

Timo Werner offered to Real Madrid

Chelsea are still working on outgoing transfers as well as bringing in the players they’re still trying to add to Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Apparently, those plans do not include German forward Timo Werner, who has already been linked with Leipzig and Newcastle this summer and has seemingly been offered to Real Madrid, too.

That’s according to Cadena Ser, who claims a €35m deal would seal the switch, but a loan deal with a permanent move at the end is also a possibility.

It’s unclear whether Werner himself is in favor of a move to Spain, the report says.

Fulham target new centre-back with three Premier League players on the list

Malang Sarr, Jannik Vestergaard and Issa Diop are all on Fulham’s potential list of new recruits as they seek to add an experienced top-flight defender before the transfer window closes.

Reports from multiple outlets say the Cottagers want at least one reinforcement in the defensive line, with Sarr the most likely option either on a loan or a permanent deal.

A new £15m bid is in place for Diop, too, but West Ham want cover before selling, which may delay that deal being done.

Barcelona announced the signing of Jules Kounde

One Chelsea were hopeful of doing – but French defender Jules Kounde has officially joined Barcelona and was unveiled on Monday at the Camp Nou.

At the same time, Barca have announced the sale of just under 25% of the club’s video and audio distribution platform, Barca Studios, with the deal expected to bring in around €100m for them.

That should prove enough for the club to register the players they have signed this summer, ahead of the new campaign.

Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton signs a season-long loan deal with Blackburn

Liverpool have loaned Tyler Morton to Blackburn for the season.

The 19-year-old becomes the third midfielder Jurgen Klopp has sent to Ewood Park in as many seasons, after Harvey Elliott excelled with the Championship club in 2021/22 and Leighton Clarkson made two appearances in an unsuccessful spell last term.

Morton started in the Champions League wins over Porto and AC Milan last season and made his full Premier League debut in December’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham, when Liverpool were hit by injuries and Covid.

Newcastle continue in talks over Leicester midfielder James Maddison

Newcastle are still pursuing a deal for Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison, claim the Mail, but Brendan Rodgers is adamant they are a long way off a deal.

A £35m bid was rejected last week and the Foxes’ boss claimed it would buy “three-quarters of his left leg”, with the Magpies not keen to go near the £60m valuation.

Separately, a move for Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet could also be pursued, if the £17.5m release fee does not have to be paid in one go.
